“God of our life, there are days when the burdens we carry chafe our shoulders and weigh us down; when the road seems dreary and endless, the skies gray and threatening; when our lives have no music in them, and our hearts are lonely, and our souls have lost their courage. Flood the path with light, RUN OUR EYES TO WHERE THE SKIES ARE FULL OF PROMISE; tune our hearts to brave music; give us the sense of comradeship with heroes and saints of every age; and so quicken our spirits that we may be able to encourage the souls of all who journey with us on the road of life, to Your honor and glory.” – Prayer attributed to St. Augustine
If you’ve been clicking around on this website, then you know by now that the 2021 Nun Run is now a virtual event, due to COVID restrictions. As the organizers of the event, we have been discerning if we should have the Nun Run this year. After prayer and discussion, we reached the decision that the 12th Annual Nun Run should go on – even though that means it will be different that our past Run’s.
Our reasoning for this decision is two-fold:
Firstly, very pragmatically, this is our biggest fundraising event of the year and we count on its success. The funds raised in the Run help us to keep doing what we are doing and moving forward with building and growing!
Secondly, is the spiritual end of things: So many good people have reached out and asked for our prayers during this difficult time – for health and healing, consolation in grief, alleviation of anxiety, resolution of family struggles, employment, and on and on. This past year has been marked by trial for so many. Carrying all of these intentions in our hearts, we easily reached the decision that the Nun Run must go on – even as a virtual event. Each year the Nun Run is characterized by a wonderful spirit of community – and it is our prayer that the virtual event will have this same spirit. As contemplative nuns (and soon to once again be cloistered nuns…as our monastery and monastic enclosure is nearing completion), we have learned the art of fostering closeness when distance is necessary. The art, of course, has everything to do with being united in the Lord! And so, it is our hope that the VIRTUAL Nun Run will be an experience of this REALITY! To this end, we invite all participants to join us in our prayer schedule (or part of it) as we celebrate the Solemnity of St. Joseph and Nun Run in his honor. Each registered participant will receive a resource flyer with the race shirt and bib in order to be spiritually united to us during the Solemnity and the Nun Run day. Though this experience of fellowship will be different than in year’s past, we are asking the Lord for a special grace for each participant: That they experience their spiritual fellowship with the Nuns and all the other Nun Runners. May St. Joseph intercede for us and for this special grace!
